What happened to January?!

by Justinchurch, personalPosted on 4 February, 20164 February, 2016No Comments

A strange thing happened. I turned around and it was like January had disappeared! If you’re like me, you’re wondering how we found ourselves in the second month of the year already. So here are some highlights of what’s happened in the last couple months, and a short reflection on what God’s been doing so far …

J is for Jesus

by Justinmusic, other people's words, personalPosted on 2 January, 2015No Comments

Ever since I heard U2 for the first time in high school, I’ve been a fan. I even wrote a paper about them in college (my professor marked me down because it read like a hagiography — oh well). I’ve loved and been inspired by their music; I’ve loved and been inspired by Bono’s activism. …

Why Christmas is good news

by Justinchurch, personalPosted on 23 December, 2013No Comments

[Adapted from yesterday’s message at The District Church, “Savior, Messiah, and Lord.”] I think Luke 2:10-12 captures the message of Christmas pretty perfectly: Do not be afraid, for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who …

A God whose timing is not my timing

by JustinpersonalPosted on 18 December, 2013No Comments

Advent is a season of waiting, of anticipating, of expecting. It’s a time when we prepare ourselves to celebrate the first coming of Jesus and acknowledge in our hearts the desire to see the second coming, when all will be set right, when every tear will be wiped away, when there will be no more …

What a privilege to be part of these two’s weddi What a privilege to be part of these two’s wedding celebration (part two!).

I first met @susannabean when she joined the @christcitydc community. But there were other tendrils of connection that made it a particular honor for me: (1) Susanna works at @sojogram, which is what first brought me to DC back in 2009; I came as a one-year fellow and stayed! (2) When I was working at Sojourners thirteen years ago, @papawolf13’s mom @mrspelt was also working there—and, actually, Chidiki and I were part of a group that went on a Christmas tour of the East Wing of the White House. Thirteen years ago.

Love how God weaves our threads together.

Eight years. To mark our second anniversary apar Eight years.

To mark our second anniversary apart (@carolyn85 is in France!), two memories together: (1) when we snuck out of our reception for golden hour photos; (2) ‘chilling’ on Huntington Beach earlier this year (because who can really chill on the beach when you have two little out-of-shot kids with you?).

Flying solo with the kids for the weekend = learni Flying solo with the kids for the weekend = learning limits, like making a plan to walk from Trinidad to Eastern Market pushing a double stroller in 90° heat and then having to reroute to a different playground when the kids’ already-discernible ambivalence turned into full-on grouchiness (mainly #danielignatius).
