Two. How @carolyn85 and I wish we could celebrate Two. How @carolyn85 and I wish we could celebrate #danielignatius with friends and loved ones. It’s so strange to think almost half his life has been spent in a pandemic. Anticipating the day when we can party in person again.
One of the things we’ve missed about pandemic li One of the things we’ve missed about pandemic life is being able to have dim sum with friends (especially when they’re dim sum newbies). But ... one of my favorite things about getting it to go is when we have leftovers.

Much of the last year has been such a mix of grief and gratitude on so many fronts. Our pregnancy journey was no different, as we experienced the highs and lows of being told we had twins and then being told a couple weeks later that we had lost one of them. But @carolyn85 and I are so grateful to be looking forward to welcoming Baby Fung #2.
Trying to follow in the footsteps of Dr. King: “ Trying to follow in the footsteps of Dr. King:
“We have a task and let us go out with a ‘divine dissatisfaction.’

Let us be dissatisfied until America will no longer have a high blood pressure of creeds and an anemia of deeds.

Let us be dissatisfied until the tragic walls that separate the outer city of wealth and comfort and the inner city of poverty and despair shall be crushed by the battering rams of the forces of justice.

Let us be dissatisfied until those that live on the outskirts of hope are brought into the metropolis of daily security.

Let us be dissatisfied until slums are cast into the junk heaps of history, and every family is living in a decent sanitary home.

Let us be dissatisfied until the dark yesterdays of segregated schools will be transformed into bright tomorrows of quality, integrated education.

Let us be dissatisfied until integration is not seen as a problem but as an opportunity to participate in the beauty of diversity.

Let us be dissatisfied until men and women, however black they may be, will be judged on the basis of the content of their character and not on the basis of the color of their skin. Let us be dissatisfied.

Let us be dissatisfied until every state capitol houses a governor who will do justly, who will love mercy and who will walk humbly with his God.

Let us be dissatisfied until from every city hall, justice will roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.

Let us be dissatisfied until that day when the lion and the lamb shall lie down together, and every man will sit under his own vine and fig tree and none shall be afraid.

Let us be dissatisfied.” #mlk #mlkday
Closed out the first sermon of #2021 at @christcit Closed out the first sermon of #2021 at @christcitydc with this prayer by Howard Thurman:

Grant that I may pass through the coming year with a faithful heart.

There will be much to test me and make weak my strength before the year ends. In my confusion I shall often say the word that is not true and do the thing of which I am ashamed. There will be errors in the mind and great inaccuracies of judgment which shall render me the victim of my own stupidities. In seeking the light, I shall again and again find myself walking in darkness. I shall mistake my light for Thy light and I shall shrink from the responsibility of the choice I make. All of these things, and more, will be true for me because I have not yet learned how to keep my hand in Thy hand.

Nevertheless, grant that I may pass through the coming year with a faithful heart. May I never give the approval of my heart to error, to falseness, to weakness, to vainglory, to sin. Though my days be marked with failures, stumblings, fallings, let my spirit be free so that Thou mayest take it and redeem my moments in all the ways my needs reveal. Give me the quiet assurance of Thy Love and Thy Presence.

Grant that I may pass through the coming year with a faithful heart.
Snapshots from my #2020 1. Preaching about the wel Snapshots from my #2020
1. Preaching about the welcome of God’s kingdom, which led us to announce a posture of full inclusion around issues of sexuality.
2. Announcing and then navigating a role transition that would see me take on the lead pastoral role at @christcitydc, a process that was so Spirit-breathed, redemptive, and ego-free — and so much credit goes to my brother-in-ministry @watsonopolis.
3. Preaching on Pentecost Sunday, the week after the murder of George Floyd, about what the Breath of God compels us to do for those gasping, “I can’t breathe.”
4. One of the protest marches I attended this year as I have learned that my faith must have feet. Showing up for protests is only one way to move beyond sympathy to solidarity but it has been an important one in my spirituality, especially as I have followed the lead of my Black friends.
5. Selah. “He makes me lie down beside quiet waters.” - Psalm 23
6. This pic was taken right after a really hard conversation @carolyn85 and I worked through. It led us to start couples therapy, and that has been a gift. However you can, invest in what is important.
7-9. Family. Watching #danielignatius grow and learn has been a joy — most of the time. All three of us have missed seeing so many family, friends, and loved ones in person — and can’t wait until we’re able to again — but I think we’ve come to appreciate each other more; and I’m grateful for that.
Happy birthday to this keeper. Love you! Happy birthday to this keeper. Love you!

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. On those living in a pitch-dark land, light has dawned. ... A child is born to us, a son is given to us, and authority will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be vast authority and endless peace for David’s throne and for his kingdom, establishing and sustaining it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of the LORD of heavenly forces will do this.” ‭‭- Isaiah‬ ‭9:2, 6-7‬
